The marvelous Mrs. Henry has been stress-inoculating me with unbelievably sad and infuriating nola stories since it happened, to the point that this one didn’t even make a dent on my psyche. If you are feeling like your good humour needs tempering, I recommend her daily digest. Here’s today’s: http://www.livejournal.com/users/domystic/294725.html?

All the delays and administrative failures and general incompetence are appalling but not particularly surprising. I do find the emergency services apparent quickness to adopt a hostile, confrontational attitude to survivors extraordinary, though. I found this particularly unnerving.

Then there’s this charming interaction between some of your countrymen (countrywomen?) and our nation’s finest: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/06092005/140/storm-survivors-told-expose-themselves.html

Nice. (‘K, that’s all the guvment behaving badly I can stand, I think. But cops yelling “show me yer tits!” in New Orleans as if it were Mardi Gras? Hell, there’s a poem in there somewhere….)
