    This is how I tie my shoelaces now. In fact it’s slightly galling to realise that I’ve not only been missing the opportunity to tie my shoelaces more quickly, I’ve actually been tieing a bad knot too.

    Now that’s a man who has spent a lot of time thinking about shoelaces. How did we ever cope before the internet?

    Hmm. The ‘Ian knot’ is going to take a bit of getting used to before it’s the fastest knot I can tie.

    It’s much easier with some shoelaces than others. If you’ve got flimsy thin laces, it’s a bit harder

    I don’t think it’s that – it’s just overcoming the muscle memory of a lifetime and making my fingers do what I tell them. I can do it, it’s just a bit clumsy.
