Self Portrait with Willow Beauty

It seems apt to start the new blog with a self-portrait of sorts; and indeed, given the blog title, with a moth picture. ‘Willow Beauty’ is the species, Peribatodes rhomboidaria. I started out trying to get a picture of the moth, as much for ID purposes as anything, but I got interested in the distorted reflections in the black gloss paint of the front door.

I like the way there are two competing focal points and the picture doesn’t let your eye settle. Ideally I guess the moth would be in sharp focus as well as the door, but I didn’t manage to achieve that.
