Not so much a beach as a windswept mudflat.
I’ve been to this site several times, and always vaguely wondered about those constructions out in the estuary. Google has come to my aid (how did we ever manage without it?). They are the remains of one of Maunsell’s sea forts, built during WW2 as a platform for anti-aircraft guns.
